As a Zodiac and iPod owner, as well as a Audible.com Basic Listener, I find the spoken word to be one of the best ways to make my commute productive and entertaining at the same time. Besides audiobook content, PodCasting is gaining popularity. Technology enthusiasts and bloggers around the web are making their content available in spoken form, and they're using RSS to syndicate it. There are several desktop apps like iPodder to automatically grab your favorite Podcasts.

As Engadget's Phillip Torrone, quoting Doc Searls points out:

Quote:
Doc Searls may have said it best: “PODcasting will shift much of our time away from an old medium where we wait for what we might want to hear to a new medium where we choose what we want to hear, when we want to hear it, and how we want to give everybody else the option to listen to it as well.”

Mike Rohde of Rohdesign fame has an interesting blurb about Podcasting in his blog. I'd recommend checking out Mike's article and Doc Searls's DIY Radio with Podcasting. You don't need an iPod to listen to Podcasts as most Podcasts are distributed in MP3 format. They'll work just fine on your Zodiac using the bundled MP3 player or something like PocketTunes and AeroPlayer.

Engadget has their own weekly Podcast and has put together a Podcast How-to Guide.

Happy Podcasting,

Brian

Very interesting. Thanks! I'm not so sure that my inane ramblings would carry over well to an audible format.

Yea, I've been into Podcasting for a few weeks and this looks to be pretty interesting longer term. Some of the shows are pretty good even in this early stage (e.g. Daily Source Code, Engadget, Slashdot Review). As far as the Zodiac is concerned, I think that delivery of small videos via RSS feeds will be an opportunity to explore.

I just recently ran accross Hellroy's Zodcast site. I'd be interested in hearing from Tapland Members if Tapland Zodcasts would be something they'd like to hear, using a format similar to Phil Torrone's Engadget Podcasts.

You should animate a character that looks like you, AND talk to us, using an Oddcast Sitepal! Whatcha think?
Are you more of a Roger, Kyle, Peter, or Edward?
Sight and sound might be a little more interesting than just reading print. Cool
