Yep. It stands for Dixon Stores Group.
If you happen to just search for "DSG Retail Ltd", you may start to notice a trend. Look at the results after a few pages, you might be able to put a finger on it... Smile

A better search will make you think you're a little out of touch.

well, I'm glad that it has finally come to Singapore Smile
Now I can additional accessories without going through the process of getting someone from the US to send it to me. Smile

Hopefully the wifi card will be out soon as rumoured.. : )
however I have to wait for the Tapwave Singapore online software store to be ready...
the current tapwave one still only accepts US credit cards..

zodiac was also launched in Korea several weeks back, but it wasn't a full scale launch - only the zodiac2 is available, and I don't think they're in retail outlets. Anyway, Japan is not a logical place to launch the zodiac because unlike the Koreans, the Japanese are used to having a Japanese language Palm OS from Sony, and Tapwave will have to develope this from scratch. All the other Asian countries, as far as I know, have homebrew solutions for skinning languages on to the English Palm OS - which are applications that make the Palm OS recognize Asian languages - new grifitti and all that. These aren't always the most stable and the menus and stuff are in English. I think people will only accept that if there is nothing better available ( like a completely ported Palm OS to their native language).

It'd be nice if Zodiac launched in Japan with a Japanese palm OS -- I read somewhere (i think here or zg) that some big name Japanese developer... either Capcom or Konami.. I don't remember, is interested in developing for the zodiac only if the device was available in Japan.

The new tagline makes it seem like if you play games on the zodiac - it'll make you invisible.

And maybe a little obsessed and then you go mad trying to keep the Zodiac with you? Shocked

FYI- TheNerds.net has some Zodiac 1s (a quantity of 288 when I saw it) for a discounted price ($271 +something like $19 for shipping). Are the Zodiacs sold to retailers in batches of a dozen dozen?

Was it an official launch, or did some online store simply decide to import the device and resell it? I'd think the latter is the case?

Nice find! They're showing the Z2 in stock now as well with a price of $359.38. Shipping is kind of steep at about $20. Nevertheless, these seem to be the best deals currently going.

My mistake about the Korean release. The offical release was announced but hasn't actually happened yet. It was announced on the Korean zodiac user group website - zodian.org and somebody from the site posted this news on tapland and zg - I thought the post said it already happened, but I guess I remembered wrong.

Zodiacs were and still are brought into Korea through numerous unofficial channels - mostly people asking friends in the US to order them one - and there is a good-sized community already in place. Tapwave will provide support only for people who brought in Zodiac 2s and not 1s. I don't know why the roll-out wasn't larger for the Korean release - the birthplce of gp32 - but I guess the numbers jut didn't add up for Tapwave in Korea. The user group I mentioned before is promoting a group purchase also.

Dixons and PC World are both part of Dixons Group PLC, as are other brands, including Currys - see below from the Dixons Group PLC website.

"It trades as Dixons, Currys, PC World and The Link in the UK and Ireland, Elkjøp in the Nordic countries, PC City in Spain, France, Italy and Sweden, UniEuro in Italy, and Electro World in Hungary and the Czech Republic."

...won't get on my soap box about the effect of all these mergers/buy outs on the consumer, but would you expect to get real choice between retail outlets all ultimately under the same ownership?
