Spout, a minimalist game by Kuni.

Original website is here (includes PC version):
http://www.din.or.jp/~ku_/index.htm (japanese only)

Ported to the Zodiac from the original version by Andrew Kearns (aka Vilmos)

Download Spout

I got annoyed with the controls when I started playing this game on my GP2X so I ported it to the Zodiac where the joystick may not be better, but I'm definitely used to it. Smile

How to play:
Your goal is to fly as high as you can. Use your thruster to erode the landscape.
The game is over when the white dot at the center of your ship collides with a wall.

Controls:
Right Trigger and actions A, B and C thrust.
Function pauses.
Home quits to menu, then quits to launcher.

Installing:
You can play Spout from the card or regular RAM.
If you place it on SD card it must be in /palm/launcher

Music:
MOD music will play if you have MOD tracker files located on the SD card at /palm/programs/Noiz2sa/sounds
If you haven't downloaded and run Noiz2sa for Zodiac then you will need to create this directory and add some music to it. You can get MOD tracker files from http://www.modarchive.com/

Thanks to testers:
Charles and Mrpropre
Also thanks to Mrpropre for the snazzy icons!

When I play this game, it gives me the feeling like I accomplished something like cleaning up some gunk on my screen - similar to asteroids. And that spouty thing is cool. I wonder where all of those particle are coming from? Shocked

Thanks Vilmos, for porting a fun game. Dancing

I finally understand the object of the game. You are given a set amount of time to get to the black line above. After you pass the black line, you are given additional time to pass the next one, etc. The "gravity" makes it harder to clear the obstacles because you have to aim your spout downwards every once in a while to maintain your height. The game is over if you come into contact with an obstacle or if time runs out.

After passing several black lines I often wonder "how am I going to get to the next black line with only 50 seconds left??"

Simple but addicting.

Vilmos, is there a way that we can throw money at you for your work in porting these games?

Thanks! This is my current favourite game.

My high score so far is height 928, score 4329. Wait on the intro screen to see the high score scroll by.

The game takes a few plays to get a full understanding...by then it has a good hold on you. Laughing

People are welcome to throw as much money as they like at me. Honest I don't mind. Heheh

The easiest way it through paypal to support @ pocketdimension.com

If you go to my site there are buttons set up for donations.

Omg I love thie game. Thanks so much vilmos. Sadly I have another faulty analog stick so playing this is impossible. Is there any way you could make the right trigger stay as thrust and have the action button turn the ship? I would really like to play it since this is totally my favorite style. Reminds me of sf cave (the best palm game ever second only to space trader)

I could surely do that but I think I would have to disable the joystick otherwise you will still get input from it.

Hmm, how bad is your joystick? Maybe we can tweak the settings to get it working for your stick. I can make a special version for you either way.

If I could contact you on messenger or IRC later on I can get something that works for you pretty quickly. (Can't do it now as I'm at work)

Thanks alot vilmos I just sen't a small little donation your way Smile
The best idea I think would be to just disable the joystick and have the buttons as turning and triggers as thrust. Oy maybee the triggers as turning and the buttons as thrust Smile. So many options.

Thanks for the contribution! I think triggers as turning and any action as thrust would make the most sense...although you won't know for sure until you try it.

I'm using the analog input though so I could fine tune the joystick to ignore a fair amount of movement if you wanted to try it.
